At the Mosta Rotunda, we strive to make our historic church as welcoming and accessible as possible for all visitors. While the building is centuries old and includes some architectural limitations, we are committed to assisting everyone in enjoying their visit.
Physical Access
- The main entrance is accessible via a gently sloped ramp, suitable for wheelchairs and mobility aids.
- The ground-level areas of the church are fully accessible.
- Please note: There is no elevator access to the Inner Gallery and the World War II Shelter. These areas are only reachable by stairs. Handrails are installed on the stairs leading to both areas, providing added stability and support.
Facilities
- Seating is available throughout the church for those who need to rest.
- Accessible restrooms are available at the Dome Visitors Centre.
Parking & Transport
- Accessible Parking: Limited parking is available besides the church, including designated accessible spaces.
- Public Transport: The Mosta Rotunda is easily reachable by bus, with the nearest bus stops located within a short, flat walk.
Enhancing Accessibility at the Mosta Dome At the Mosta Dome, we are committed to making our historic site inclusive and accessible to all visitors. To support this, we offer a variety of resources that cater to different needs and preferences:
Audio Guide:
Available in multiple languages, the audio guide provides in-depth commentary on the dome's history, architecture, and key events, including the WWII bomb incident. Ideal for visitors who prefer auditory learning or have visual impairments.
Printed Leaflets: Informative leaflets in several languages are available at the entrance.
Information Panels: A large information board at the entrance highlighting cost, dress code and other information about the Church. Each section of the church — including side chapels, sacristy, and bomb shelter — features clear, easy-to-read explanatory texts.
Construction Video: A short film showing the Construction of the Dome is available at the Dome Visitors Centre. This space is accessible via elevator, ensuring that visitors with mobility needs can enjoy the full experience.
Historical Video (Sacristy) An additional video highlighting the dome’s historical is shown in the sacristy, which is accessible via a ramp.
Lighting: The church interior is well-lit, ensuring visibility and safety for all visitors. Key areas, including signage and texts, are illuminated to aid those with low vision and to enhance the overall visitor experience.
Fire Safety • The building is equipped with a modern fire alarm system, including audible signals to alert all visitors in the event of an emergency. Staff are trained in evacuation procedures and ready to assist guests with disabilities if needed.
